Paris Spring/Summer 2006 Wrap Up III

Br. . it was cold this weekend. There's nothing like the Paris Fashion Week to warm one up with excitement and suprise. Especially the final weekend of this 4 week long festivity for the fashion world.

Christian Lacroix
Ever since seeing his Haute Couture collections, I've had a thing for Christian Lacroix. And he has not disappoint me. Its refreshing to see color on the runway after seeing so many nuetral palettes for the past month. And this collection is just so different from all the others, although I cannot quite put a finger to it.

I can just envision these ladies with their colorful head ties walking along the streets in some quaint little village in the South of France.

And I'm loving the dress on the right. Its just so Parisian chic.

These two dresses are just divine. All long and flowy. . Its also interesting how he decided to throw on a trench coat on top of the dress. Its like she cannot be bothered to find something cute and matching to put on, and so she decided to grab her trusty trench coat which matches with everything.

And these two are just soo marvellously rich and colorful.

Chloe
Ah. . Chloe. My absolute dream brand. It never fails to impress me. And this time was no exception. The collection was voluminous and somewhat more structure then the flowy smooth dresses last season. I LOVE it.

She started off with this big white dress. Its loose, but its wonderful how she still hints at the female curves with the wide waist line.

For the more officey look, Phoebe has got these sligtly more structured professional looks. The black jacket is just perfect.

Having just been pregnant herself, Phoebe has designed these absolutely BEAUTIFUL dresses that even pregnant ladies can wear. Talk about designer maternity clothes.

Genius how she plays down the heavy embellishment and pumps up simplicity. And HOW she can make such a simple looking dress so gorgeous is beyond me.

John Galliano
Usually John Galliano's heavily embellished style is far too much for my tastes (although I DO admire his superior cutting), but this season, I just find it brilliant and utterly refreshing that he would bring normal people (note:not stick thin with impossibly long legs) onto the catwalk. The show was practically an abstract art performance that speaks way beyond the realm of everyday fashion. I admire that. But everyone appreciates art and its message in different ways. So I'm going to leave you with a few pictures from the show and let you draw your own conclusion..

The iPod Nano

So usually, Barneys Girl and I don't talk about anything that is technology-related. But really, nowadays, an iPod is not only an audio device, but also a fashion accessory!

A few years ago, when iPods first came out and became THE thing to have, we thought it was too big and bulky and stuck to our mp3s. Then the Minis came out, and Barneys Girl waited until the 6GB ones came out and bought it. After waiting so long, Apple finally put out a tiny iPod, the Nano! (We don't like the Shuffle.)

As a err, back-to-school-good-luck present, my dad bought 3 Nanos, (one for him, one for my sister and one for me.) He purchased it from the Apple online store, which is great beause it's reliable, fast and you could choose to engrave two lines at the back. Mine says my name and 'I am Fashion'! Whether you perfer white or black, both colors are brilliant because they would match all your clothes and accessories! (I got a white one.)

When I first opened the Nano box and saw the gadget, I thought, wow this is sooo pretty and err, slightly flimsy. And you can hardly blame me for feeling that -the Nano is about the same size as a few credit cards stacked together. Amazing right? Of course in anticipation of possible scratches and damages, (God forbid any imperfections on my things,) I already had a white cover ready to protect my little darling.

The Nano is light which makes it actually comfortable to carry it around. And it's tiny, so it fits into the little handbags of the famale species and the jeans' pockets of the male species. There have been reports that there are some defects in some of the Nano's screens, but so far, mine is working just fine. The only complaint I have is that it's a pain to convert the songs from the Windows Media format to the Apples format (whatever they're called.) But anyhow, I'm loving it!

Paris Spring/Summer 2006 Wrap Up II

The flowy, loose theme continues to dominate the runway. And Paris continues to delight and suprise fashion lovers of the world. Here's a review of the latest offerings.

Givenchy
Riccardo Tisci's collection for Givenchy was. . interesting to say the least. There were a few very chic and stylish pieces that I loved, like these. .

These two are very pretty and ladylike.

And these two are just very casually classy.

And then there are ones that are waay too structured and nurselike for me to comprehend.

And this one, I have no comment about cause I really can't see the outfit very well. But I just found it really fascinating how she can sit at such a perfect right angle.

Bruno Pieter
I also just LOVE it when I come across collections I like by designers I've never heard of.

It good to see the flaired tiered skirts (prob because I just bought one recently). And matched with that blouse, it perfects the victorian look.

And these two are just soo pretty in a ballerina-like way. I'm a sucker for ballerina-like outfits!

Stella Macartney
Her collection was the epitome of casual elegance. Just take a look.

See how everything is so effortlessly casual but still soo elegant looking? I just ADORE the nude dress (or whatever it is).

And for semi formal cocktail parties, these outfits are perfect (esp the gorgeous dress on the left).

Her evening dresses were just divine. The long flowing skirt cascading around the model is positively goddess-like.

Lagerfeld Gallery
This summer I came across a collection of clothes from the Lagerfeld Gallery. And I must say, for clothes that resemble Mr.Lagerfeld, they are outrageously overpriced. This collection is actually quite passable and only slightly resemble Karl.

The holes on the waistband of the skirt to reveal the shirt underneath is a very inspirational indeed.

And these dashes of rich color is not a bad touch either. I esp like the high waisted blue skirt on the right. The belt outlining her waist makes it that much more feminine.

These two are actually very classical Chanel looking dresses. I like that.

Chanel
I want to cry. What was Karl thinking? I know being loose and casual is the trend this season, but can he not, like everyone else, do it in a stylish, elegant and Chanel manner?

The one on the left looks looks like a frump. And the red suit look is just not very flattering.

Please tell me that those tight bicycle shorts are not in fashion. And what is that thing she's wearing over a perfectly ok looking outfit?

This just looks very strange *sniff*

Thank god there were the few pieces that still had a semblance of what Chanel is supposed to represent in it. Like this perfectly classical black dress.

And these more elegant looking dresses. In fact, the black one is really quite gorgeous! Sigh. . if it weren't for these few pieces, I'd truly be very devastated with what has happened to Chanel this season. I hope this is just an abnormality and not the start of a whole new direction.

Victoria Beckham's Denims

So the other day, it came to my attention that Victoria Beckham had launched a pair of jeans for Rock and Republic called, "Victoria Beckham South Beach cropped jeans". The "south beach" here refers to the wash and not to Victoria herself (not the south beach diet-so you don't have to be as skinny as her to wear it). Anyways, being me, I immediately went online to eluxury to check out what it looked it.

And I was thoroughly disappointed. The only thing differentiating it from any old pair of cropped denim is the red crown on the back pockets, which is supposedly a copy of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation crown. And they cost a whooping $235. No wonder the Queen wants to sue her for this, she probably just wants to add part of the proceeds to the royal coffers. You don't see her suing Claires for their "crown" jewelry. Don't get me wrong, I think it looks pretty and really befits Posh Spice to use a royal crown as her logo. I'm just in awe of the exorbitant price the name Victoria Beckham can bring.
